Our Use of Cookies and Other Tracking Mechanisms

We use cookies and other tracking mechanisms, such as web beacons, to track information about your use of our Site and Services.  We may combine this information with other personal information we collect from you (and our third party service providers may do so on our behalf).

Currently, our systems do not recognize browser “do-not-track” requests.  You may, however, disable certain tracking as discussed in this section (e.g., by disabling cookies), but such disabling will impair use of the Site and Services.

Cookies.  Cookies are alphanumeric identifiers that we transfer to your computer’s hard drive through your web browser for record-keeping purposes.  Some cookies allow us to make it easier for you to navigate our Site and Services, while others are used to enable a faster log-in process or to allow us to track your activities at our Site and Services.  There are two types of cookies:  session and persistent cookies.

  • Session Cookies.  Session cookies exist only during an online session.  They disappear from your computer when you close your browser or turn off your computer.  We use session cookies to allow our systems to uniquely identify you during a session or while you are logged into the Site.  This allows us to process your online transactions and requests and verify your identity, after you have logged in, as you move through our Site.
  • Persistent Cookies.  Persistent cookies remain on your computer after you have closed your browser or turned off your computer.  We use persistent cookies to track aggregate and statistical information about user activity.

In addition, we, our service providers and others sometimes use data-gathering mechanisms on the Site, including without limitation “web beacons”, “clear GIFs”, “pixels” and/or “tags” (“Tracking Technologies”).  These perform statistical and administrative functions, such as measuring site and page traffic, verifying advertising paths, better understanding user interests and activity, gathering related information (such as information relating to a particular browser, device or IP address) and positioning images, and typically do so without detracting from your online experience.

We generally use the following types of cookies and Tracking Technologies on our Site:

  • Strictly Necessary Cookies:  These cookies are necessary for the Site to function and cannot be switched off in our systems.  They are usually only set in response to actions made by you which amount to a request for services, such as setting your privacy preferences, logging in or filling in forms.  You can set your browser to block or alert you about these cookies, but some parts of the Site or Services will not then work.
  • Functional Cookies:  These cookies enable the Site to provide enhanced functionality and personalization.  They may be set by us or by third party providers whose services we have added to our pages.  If you do not allow these cookies then some or all of these services may not function properly.
  • Performance Cookies:  These cookies allow us to count visits and traffic sources so we can measure and improve the performance of our Site.  They help us to know which pages are the most and least popular and see how visitors move around the Site.  All information these cookies collect is aggregated.  If you do not allow these cookies we will not know when you have visited our Site, and will not be able to monitor its performance.  One of the services we use for these purposes is Google Analytics.  To opt-out of Google Analytics and find out more about their privacy practices, see https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
  • Targeting Cookies:  These cookies may be set through our site by our advertising partners.  They may be used by those companies to build a profile of your interests and show you relevant adverts on other sites.  They do not store directly personal information, but are based on uniquely identifying your browser and internet device.  If you do not allow these cookies, you will experience less targeted advertising.  These cookies may collect information your online activities over time and across different Internet websites or online services when you use our Site and Services.

By accessing and using our Site and Services, you consent to use of cookies and Tracking Technologies and our sharing of information collected through cookies and Tracking Technologies with third parties for data analytics, site performance and advertising purposes, including targeted advertising.

Disabling Cookies.  Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but if you prefer, you can edit your browser options to block them in the future.  The Help portion of the toolbar on most browsers will tell you how to prevent your computer from accepting new cookies, how to have the browser notify you when you receive a new cookie, or how to disable cookies altogether.  Visitors to our Site who disable cookies will not be able to browse certain areas of the Site or use the Services.

Third-Party Links

Our Site and Services may contain links to third-party websites.  Any access to and use of such linked websites is not governed by this Policy, but instead is governed by the privacy policies of those third party websites.  We are not responsible for the information practices of such third-party websites.

Security of My Personal Information

We have implemented commercially reasonable precautions to protect the information we collect from loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction.  Please be aware that despite our efforts, no data security measures can guarantee 100% security.

You should take steps to protect against unauthorized access to your password, phone, and computer by, among other things, signing off after using a shared computer, choosing a robust password that nobody else knows or can easily guess, and keeping your log-in and password private.  We are not responsible for any lost, stolen, or compromised passwords or for any activity on your account via unauthorized password activity.

You may request access, a copy, modification  or deletion of personal information that you have submitted to us by contacting us at [insert email].  We will use reasonable efforts to accommodate such requests to the extent required by law, provided that we may be required to retain personal information to comply with legal obligations, accounting requirements, or for other business purposes.  We may request additional information to verify the identity of the requesting party before responding to a request.  Please note that copies of information that you have updated, modified or deleted may remain viewable in cached and archived pages of the Site for a period of time.

Retention

We generally retain your personal information for the period of time necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected and to comply with any accounting and legal obligations.

Where required by law, our processing of your Personal Data is based on the following legal bases:

  • We process your personal information as necessary to enter and enforce our contracts with you.
  • We process your Personal Data for the legitimate purpose to provide you with the Site and Services, including to facilitate your transactions, improve our Site and Services, enhance your experience with our Site and Services, maintain your account, and provide you with technical support or customer service assistance.
  • We process your Personal Data if we receive your consent to do so, including to provide you with promotional information about our Site and Services.  You can withdraw that consent at any time by emailing us at [insert email].
  • We may process your Personal Data if we have legal grounds to do so, including in response to any legal process, internal investigation, and in connection with any investigation, action, enforcement, or litigation, including to protect the rights of our users.

While we encourage you to contact us directly and allow us to work with you to address your concerns, you also have the right to lodge a complaint before the supervisory authority in the EU Member State where you reside or work or the place of the alleged infringement.  For the United Kingdom you can contact the Information Commissioner’s Office at https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/.  You may exercise these rights if you consider that the processing of Personal Data relating to you infringes applicable data protection laws.

What Choices Do I Have Regarding Use of My Personal Information for Marketing?

We may send periodic promotional or informational emails to you.  You may opt-out of such communications by following the opt-out instructions contained in the e-mail.  Please note that it may take up to 10 business days for us to process opt-out requests.  If you opt-out of receiving emails about recommendations or other information we think may interest you, we may still send you e-mails about your account or any Services you have requested or received from us.

We use Google Analytics remarketing codes to log when users view specific pages or take specific actions on a website.  This allows us to provide targeted advertising in the future.  If you do not wish to receive this type of advertising from us in the future you can opt out using the DoubleClick opt-out page or the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page.
